There are seasons when we begin to question the harvest because we cannot see any evidence that the seeds we planted are growing. We have prayed, served, sacrificed, remained faithful, and obeyed what God instructed us to do—yet the results seem delayed. When nothing appears to be changing, we may wonder, “Did I hear God correctly? Was my obedience worth it? Will I ever see the fruit of what I planted?”
But a seed does not stop working simply because its growth is hidden.
Jesus describes the mystery of growth in Mark 4:26–28. A man scatters seed on the ground, and while he continues with his daily life, the seed begins to grow—even though he does not fully understand how. The earth produces the crop gradually: first the blade, then the head, and eventually the full grain.
This reminds us that growth is often taking place before it becomes visible.
Every act of obedience plants something in the spirit. Every prayer prayed in faith, every sacrifice made with a pure heart, every time you forgave when it was difficult, every time you gave when God instructed you to give, and every time you continued serving while feeling unseen—you were sowing seeds.
First Corinthians 3:6–7 teaches us that one person plants, another waters, but God gives the increase. Our responsibility is to plant what God places in our hands. We cannot force the seed to grow, determine how quickly the harvest will come, or control what happens beneath the soil. The increase belongs to God.
Obedience does not always produce immediate evidence, but that does not mean it is unproductive. What you planted in faith is not forgotten. God sees every seed, knows where it was planted, and understands the appointed season for its growth.
When a seed is placed in the ground, it disappears from sight. It becomes buried beneath the soil, where darkness and pressure surround it. From the outside, it may appear that the seed has been lost. But the soil is not its grave—it is the place of transformation.
Some of the things God has promised you may feel buried right now. Your prayers may seem unanswered. Your vision may appear delayed. Your obedience may feel unnoticed. But buried does not mean dead. God may be developing roots before He reveals fruit.
Roots are necessary because the harvest must be strong enough to survive after it appears. God is not only concerned with bringing forth the promise; He is also preparing you to carry it. The hidden season is where faith deepens, character develops, and trust becomes anchored in God rather than in visible results.
Sometimes impatience tempts us to dig up the seed. We continually question whether anything is happening because the harvest has not arrived according to our schedule. We compare our progress to others, become discouraged by delays, or abandon what God told us to do.
But every seed has an appointed process.
Ecclesiastes 3:1 declares that there is a season and a time for every purpose under heaven. God’s timing is not careless, nor is His delay evidence of His denial. What feels late to us may still be perfectly aligned with His purpose.
Faith means trusting God even when we cannot track the progress. It is believing that what He spoke remains true while the ground still looks empty. We must resist the urge to allow frustration to uproot what obedience planted.
Galatians 6:9 encourages us not to grow weary while doing good because, in due season, we will reap if we do not give up. The harvest has a “due season.” That means there is an appointed time when what has been developing privately will become visible publicly.
Our responsibility is to remain faithful while we wait.
Keep praying.
Keep serving.
Keep believing.
Keep obeying.
Keep sowing.
You may not be able to see the roots forming, but God is working beneath the surface. Heaven has not overlooked your faithfulness. Your tears have watered the ground, your prayers have prepared the soil, and your obedience has positioned the seed for growth.
Psalm 126:5–6 reminds us that those who sow in tears will reap with joy. The pain attached to your planting season will not cancel the promise of your harvest. God can use every tear, every disappointment, and every difficult moment as part of the process that produces fruit.
Do not mistake an empty field for an unproductive one. Do not assume that silence means God is absent. The seed is working in the hidden place.
At the appointed time, it will break through the soil.
What you sowed in obedience will produce what God intended. The harvest may not arrive in the way or at the time you expected, but God remains faithful. Your responsibility is not to control the outcome; it is to trust the One who gives the increase.
The seed will sprout.
The promise will unfold.
The harvest will come.
Remain faithful in the field. Trust God in the hidden season. What He placed inside the seed is greater than what you can currently see.
Prayer
Father, help me trust You in the seasons when I cannot see the results of my obedience. Remind me that every seed planted according to Your will is under Your care. Strengthen me when I become weary, and keep me from abandoning what You instructed me to do. Teach me to trust Your timing, Your process, and Your promise. I believe that You are working beneath the surface and that, in the appointed season, the seed will sprout and the harvest will come. In Jesus’ name, amen.
