Daily, we are invited to extend God’s love to others, as well as embrace it for ourselves. There are days when both extending and accepting that love can be challenging. In those moments, I am reminded that God’s love is both empowering and humbling. It is not something that is earned, but something that is received.

In our world, worth is often wrapped up in achievement and status, and believing this can easily throw us off course from understanding what God’s love is truly about. Romans 5:8 says, “But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” This verse is a powerful expression of God’s love—His character revealed to us as unconditional.

His love is not dependent on our actions, nor is it based on our worthiness. It is given freely, even when we are in our most unlovable state. This is the heart of the gospel of Christ, that even in a state of sin, Christ chose to die for us. God’s love allows us to rest in the assurance that we are deeply loved by our Creator.

Today, take a moment to reflect on this kind of love and consider how often we withhold it from others until we deem them worthy. God’s love calls us to mirror Him in our relationships, in our character, and in how we treat others.

Let us choose today to extend that same love, grace, and mercy to those around us even when it is difficult. In doing so, we reflect the love of God—a love that does not wait for perfection, but meets us right in our imperfections.
